One Leaves and Another Returns

Sunday, May 28th, 2006

As one Northsider goes out to make his way in Miami, another Northsider comes home from Portland Oregon for a short vacation and to visit his new nephew.  It’s always great to see this guy.  We all went to Niko Niko’s for lunch on the day he arrived.  He’s been away for about a year now and has al kinds of good things to say about Portland.  Still, I’m sure he misses everyone and everyone misses him back.  It’s got to be tough for him.

We’ll Miss Him

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

My Brother is leaving for Miami, FL. Another Northsider trying to work his way out of the Northside and into the world. It’s going to be sad to see him go; we’ll miss him a lot. Still, I understand that he’s got to do it. Just like I HAD to go to Chicago. Only he’s older than I was when I tried it, a little more mature and with more worldly experience than I had at the time. I went for school, he’s going just to go – just cause he has the chance. That’s a very adventerous thing to do. He’s making the trip alone, so we’re all worried about him, but we send our love and much luck with him. I hope he has a good expereince and is able to make it into what he wants it to be. I hope he’s safe. And I hope he gets a chance to make it back for Christmas.

First Entry

Saturday, May 13th, 2006

This is the first blog entry for Nearnorthside.org blog.  We’ve seen quite a few new townhomes going up on Hogan between Main and Fletcher.  We’re seeing the beginnings of regentrification, but it’s happening slower than it did in the Sixth Ward.  At least in el Sesto, old victorian cottages were being renovated.  Here in the Northside, however, the starting trend is to raize the old wooden structures and build townhomes with hardi-plank siding.  There are also plans for the Metro light rail extansion up Main Street, and we hear that there’s even more construction planned.

On the plus side, the Target store built INSIDE THE CITY (on Sawyer near I-10) looks almost completed.  more news as it happens…
